Oconee County Civitan Meets for Christmas Party
12-8-10
Members (about 18) of the Oconee Civitan Club meet twice per month and prepare for and execute funding projects to support their main mission – to assist the less fortunate with Developmental Disabilities and other health challenges. Today, they met to have a holiday lunch, plan a fundraiser (selling hot Boston Butts on Friday & Saturday) and to exchange Christmas gifts by numbers.
Each member took a number and in sequence, took a gift from under the Christmas Tree and opened it. The next member could retrieve a gift likewise or could take the first opened gift whereby the owner of the first gift took another gift and opened it for all to see. A gift could be “taken” only twice before it was considered “off limits.” Many gifts were “taken” and much fun was enjoyed among members.
Some of the gifts were Specialty Cookies, a plexiglass picture frame, kitchen towel set, jewelry pins, gift cards from various vendors, tea cup set, champagne glasses, etc.
Dennise Grayson, President of the Club announced the items requested by the 2 Oconee County Senior Citizens that the club had voted to sponsor through the Oconee Area Resource Council – Family Connection. A budget was determined for each Senior sponsored and club members volunteered to shop for the requested items.
A delicious meal of green beans, turkey dressing and gravy, sweet potato soufflé, cranberry sauce, macaroni & cheese, roll and tea was served.
Members were invited to assist with the roasting of the pork on Friday night December 10, 2010.
The next meeting will be held on January 12, 2011 at the Watkinsville Community Center at 12 noon.
