38th Annual Fall Festival Entrance

2011 Fall Festival Attendance Exceeds Last Year
10-15-11

“There are a lot of Thanks here and there and should be as we have heard that there were 35,000 plus at the event.  WOW ………….,” said President J R Whitfield of the recent Oconee Fall Festival.

It was a splendid day for attending a festival; the weather could not have been better. There was a lot of hard work that went into getting everything ready and cleaning up afterwards. The Chamber staff (all 3) did an excellent job in recruiting volunteer assistance throughout the planning process. “…and I want to take the time to thank people for their hard work and effort for putting on the 38th Oconee Chamber of Commerce Fall Festival,” said Whitfield in a blanket e-mail.

Julia Estess, Fall Festival & Website Coordinator, did a tremendous job coordinating the event. All year long, a tremendous number of hours go into the planning and coordinating to make it a successful event. According to Whitfield, “….it was by far the best, – with the help of Zoe Gattie, Chamber General Manager,” he quickly adds.

If you saw David Williams and Mark Towles calmly walking around the festival grounds, it was because they were the “Get It Done” Committee, who were charged to do whatever it takes to get electricity to the vendors or whatever else was needed on the spur of the moment. They did a great job – no mishaps.

And of course, the Sponsors play a critical roll in any huge event. And this year, newcomer (in town) Bank South was the Presenting Sponsor.

Other sponsors include:  American Pest Control, First American Bank and Trust, Gainesville State College, Air Tight Insulation, Classic Center Cultural Foundation, Thompson House and Garden, Curbside Services, Georgia Transmission, Kaiser Permanente, Watkinsville Golf Carts, Oconee County Parks and Recreation, The Oconee Leader and Walton EMC.

Other sponsors called Friends of the Festival helped also:

Ashley Auto Parts, Athens Academy, Certified Clean Care, Classic Awards and Engraving, Harold Smith Insurance, John and Maria Caudill, Lowes, Westminster Christian Academy and Webber Coleman Woodworks.

Finally the Road Race SponsorsTrader Joe’s, Carter Engineering Consultants, Golden Pantry, Classic Race Services, Jackson Spalding, Barberto’s, Oconee State Bank, Run & See Georgia, Trinity Accounting Group and Walmart and Sam’s Club.

The Chamber will have a few more sponsored events before year’s end which will be announced in their weekly Newsletter (http://www.oconeechamber.org/index.php?option=com_docman&Itemid=192) after which the Annual Awards Presentation Banquet will be held in January 2012.
