Lower Your Property Taxes By Voting “YES” for E-LOST

Early voting for the E-LOST (continued one-cent sales tax for education – not a new tax) begins Monday, October 17th at the Oconee County Voter Registration Office located at 10 Court Street (next to the Oconee County Courthouse). Absentee ballots are currently being distributed. Early voting ends Friday, November 4th.
Important dates:
Oct 17 – begin early voting
Nov 4 – early voting ends
Nov 8 – Vote Day

E-LOST IV (Education Local Option Sales Tax) Information
A “YES” vote will:
1 – Renew 1-cent sales tax (if approved by voters) to begin January 2013
2 – Allow patrons from outside Oconee County help fund our projects
3 - Lower property taxes by increasing economic development revenues

Work needed at schools listed below:

Project List (general):
1 – Major Technology Upgrades (replacement cycle for computers)
2 – Make all schools wireless
3 – New phone systems in all schools
4 – Update servers, portals, and video equipment
5 – Update network

Project List (specific):
Colham Ferry Elementary School
1 – Add corridors between the buildings
2 – Roofing and HVAC in some areas
3 – Plumbing and restroom equipment upgrades
4 – Enclose front entrance to enhance security of building
5 – New kitchen equipment
6 – Resurface paved areas

North Oconee High School
1 – Field House/Concessions/Restroom Upgrades
2 – Technology fibers to field house

Oconee County High School (major 20-year renovation)
1 – Update security, alarm and intercom systems
2 – New wiring, painting, lighting, flooring, etc.
3 – Renovate restrooms
4 – Move Health Occupations to renovated area inside building
5 – Resurface paved areas
6 – Replace HVAC in building
7 – Door replacement/refinishing
8 – Add field house space for athletes
9 – Renovate restrooms at current field house
10 – Technology fibers to field house

Please vote on November 8.We are all aware of the magnetism our school system generates. We are one of the best systems in the State and our high school graduation rate is one of the highest and our students are more successful in life than most. Let’s keep it that way by voting “Yes” for E-LOST and give the Board of Education authority to go forward with these upgrades.

As of July 2010, I have reached 76 years. I retired in 2004 and have been enjoying my retirement by getting involved in community activities. I am an active member of the Keep Oconee Clean & Beautiful which I founded with the help of the Oconee BOC in 1992. Also a member of the Oconee Chamber of Commerce (Ambassador), OCAF, the Veterans Memorial Foundation and the local Oconee GOP. In 2007, I was appointed by the BOC Chairman, Melvin Davis as a member of the CSB - Advantage Behavioral Health Systems and last year was voted as the Chairman of that 16-member Community Service Board. Am also the owner of the Web site - a Positive Vision of Oconee County - started in 2004. I began attending government and community events and took photos of the meetings to compliment my articles on the Web site. Since then, I have collected over 40,000 photos. I guess you could call me the roving community photographer. I enjoy meeting people and helping where I can be of help. I am married to Mac McDaniel and have 2 very talented children, Dan and Cindy. I try to stay abreast of happenings in the County and outside the county that if they are relative to Oconee residents so as to record these happenings for posterity. My Photos will be given to the Oconee Library for all to access and enjoy for years to come when I am no longer able to use them.
